Welcome to STANDING TALL...

While driving Andrea home from her first chemo treatment, I was stunned at how openly she was able to discuss her cancer with the other women as they watched their poison cocktails drip into their bodies. But why not talk about it?  Andrea explained, “Dad, say that in a year from now this cancer gets me... now don't worry, that's not going to happen. But say it did... why would I want to go out with a bad attitude?”

For the next eleven months Andrea and Eric along with Andrea's father, Tom, would inspire thousands as Andrea, through her timely e-mails, kept family, friends and friends of friends informed about her fight to "Kick Cancer’s Ass." Readers of Standing Tall will be inspired as they're introduced to Melissa, “Kidcicles” and Andrea’s Army, and they will be awed by Andrea's faith and desire to "pay it forward."

Standing Tall is a celebration of a life well-lived, along with the story of how one family decided to fight cancer.  Readers will learn valuable information about how to be a patient, caregiver and supporter during a traumatic illness while still maintaining normalcy in their lives. Standing Tall is a wonderfully inspirational story of a father and daughter's journey through cancer.

What they are saying about STANDING TALL

Told through the eyes of a father who accompanies his daughter through her ovarian cancer journey, we learn powerful lessons about love and loss, courage and hope. This book is not just about cancer; it’s about family, love and about a parent holding on – then, letting go. There’s a lesson for any parent in StandingTall that goes beyond having a daughter suffering with ovarian cancer. It’s a lesson about living.

There are no rules or “how to” instructions when it comes to dealing with cancer. Standing Tall describes how being proactive, reaching out to others, and having a positive attitude about the present makes the fight a much more rewarding experience. Family, friends and caregivers were empowered through the faith, hope and strength of Andrea, as she made a difference in everyone’s life she touched.

It was truly a special experience for me to have been Andrea’s coach, but I want you to know that, in a handful of experiences, I was not the teacher or the coach, I was the student. In this case, I was truly the one being taught. Iwant to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to have had this experience in being Andrea’s softball coach.   Rick Gamez, former Head Softball Coach for New Mexico StateUniversity and University of Oregon

Had it not been for cancer, my life would not have crossed paths with Andrea’s, yet it wasn’t cancer itself that made our bond so close. In speaking with Andrea, I discovered so many similarities between us that I simply couldn’t believe we were on opposite sides of the country, faced with the same situation. She was exactly like me. Standing Tall is a heart-warming story of a father and daughter’s love for each other, and how a family grew through letting go. Melissa Young-Gallagher, Small Cell Ovarian Cancer Survivor
